Lakehub, in collaboration with 01 Talent, has embarked on an exciting journey by launching their first cohort of 100 apprentices. LakeHub is an innovative non-profit organisation committed to bridging the skills gap and shaping a brighter future for Kenya’s tech workforce. Their mission is to decentralise access to technology tools, fostering entrepreneurship and social innovation among young people. They firmly believe that Africa’s youth are a vital resource for the continent’s future and are dedicated to equipping them with the tools and opportunities needed for success.
01 Talent Africa, the pan-African talent agency of the 01 Talent International group shares this vision. Their goal is to identify, develop, and connect 1 million high-level developers to the professional world by 2035, leveraging a proven educational model and a sustainable, exponential economic framework.
The journey for these apprentices began with a rigorous 4-week in-person selection event called “Piscine.” During this intense period, participants got a glimpse of what their future as skilled full-stack developer might look like. Out of the 3,469 who participated, 100 apprentices (83 male and 17 female) were selected to officially join the Zone01 Kisumu community.
These apprentices will undergo a 2-year training program based on the 01 Talent model of peer-to-peer learning. This unique approach will transform them into highly skilled full-stack developers. They will master various programming languages such as JavaScript, Rust, and GoLang, and develop an innovative, agile mindset capable of solving problems through creative tech applications. The peer-to-peer activities not only teach coding skills but also instil a framework for self-teaching across hundreds of different languages.
Upon completing their core training, the apprentices will have a guaranteed employment contract for three years or more with the 01 Talent global talent agency. This opportunity allows them to choose a career path and gain real-world experience to become experts in fields such as artificial intelligence, video game development, blockchain, cybersecurity and DevOps, mobile and web app development, and data engineering.
We are thrilled about our partnership with LakeHub. Unlike other livelihood initiatives that take longer to improve income levels, these 100 young men and women will immediately transform their economic status with starting incomes of no less than USD 1,000 per month. Moreover, they will acquire lifelong skills in technology, setting them on a path to sustained success.
