Why Country Strategies?
Following our visits to Tanzania and Burundi in 2025, we recognised as a team that we needed to adapt our approach and develop country-specific strategies. This ensures we are identifying and supporting the right partners while maximising the impact of every dollar entrusted to us.
In Tanzania, we struggled to identify strong new partners and concluded that the most effective path forward is to go deeper with our existing portfolio, strengthening and scaling their work. In Burundi, the context has been particularly challenging for both local NGOs and INGOs. Complex dynamics have led to significant brain drain, with many skilled leaders relocating to countries such as Canada and Belgium. As a result, even organisations that once showed promise have lost proximity leadership, which is central to the way we build and sustain our portfolio. These realities underscore the importance of tailoring our strategies to each country’s unique environment, ensuring that our investments remain impactful, resilient, and aligned with our vision of transformative change. We have therefore carefully developed tailored strategies for each country, designed to strengthen partner identification and guide our engagement.
